Default Work Light

Hello,

I am interested in what the seasoned veterans use for a work light,

I was looking at a few 500 Lumens (about 4 hours) before need to charge it a magnet bottom and able to set from 0 to 150 degrees

as I need lighting to work under the dash to hook back up the vent/air conditioning vents and thought why not a headlamp I think it's bright enough focusing on the work area and keeping both of your hands free to snap these parts back in place.

what is your preference?

Thanks,

for your time and help

I just bought 2 of these. Best LED rechargeable I ever had. I have had a number of different Eastwood lights, but this is way better. Small, compact and numerous mounting methods. Very well Engineered. Just have to remember to take it off the bottom of the frame after working under the car. Lost 2 Eastwoods that way!

I would get one that spreads the light so your not having to shift it all the time. The ones like Duke94 got look good for working under your dash .

I have a variey of small LED battery/rechargeable lights.
The ones I find most helpful are the led headlights with adjustable brightness and focus adjustment. They last a couple of hrs on bright so i keep a few extra rechargeable batteries handy(kits on ebay are under 20).
I have a few older kobalt rechargeable flashlights that are the bomb, both magnetic adjustable beam and brightness. They last many hours. Don't think they've made them for a few years. For extended projects I use a corded led drop light or as general lighting.
While on subject of lighting, I switched over to 30watt led flood lights on work light stands, little heat(major issue for me in the south especially) and get a nice white light.

project lamp, multiple settings for light levels... 700 max lumens, VERY bright and a VERY powerful magnet on the bottom, multi-angle positional... the charger is a USB-C so it also works with my phone, LOVE IT!!! I also have several Milwaukee lanterns that last for several days on their huge batteries but this is the go-to for hard/tight spots

A head lamp is a good addition as it always shines light where you're looking. You're welcome ;-)

Spent $10 at Harbor Freight and got 2 head lamps and 2 LED flashlights, plus a free LED square.. works great.

I also have the HF bar light rechargeable and Milwaukee M12 rechargeable.

I have a 3 foot rechargable LED light bar that isnt that bright but was okay for engine work, not so much under the dash

then i i upgraded to some smaller hand held LED versions, still not that good for the dash

I have 2 magnetic small triangle LEDs that stand on there own and have magnetic bases, again just okay

What i bought to replace a cheap one of that was actually not bad was a super bright LED headlight. Its perfect everywhere. I shut it off when i get out from under the dash or car and i use it everywhere. As a supplement i have a giant plug in worklight that has outlets built into it that i use under the car for bigger projects and use the headlight to get rid of shadows.

For under dash work you just cant beat a LED headlamp and a COSTCO box of batteries

I got this at Lowes, in the marked down section. Plugs in using a USB, not sure of the lumens, but it's plenty bright. Works as a regular light, has a tiny beam light at the end ( for looking at small areas that you have to focus on). Has a hook, a magnet on the back, and the magnet part swings out to it can stand up. Does about anything you need. I got 2, so when the charge runs out, the other is ready to go. I think it was about $15.

Thank you for making that post. I was also in the market for a good, compact, trouble light. Being a selective fan of Snapon, when I saw your post I checked out and ordered one of these. It came today and it is terrific! I love that little light, it was exactly what I was looking for. BTW when I say "selective fan" I mean I buy Snapon on a limited basis because of affordability. For those certain tools when you really need quality stuff they are the ticket. For those things when limited use means it makes more sense to be frugal then I downgrade to SK, Craftsman, all the way to HF on some things. Actually I have a few Mac Tools also and I apply pretty much the same criteria as I do to Snapon. For the home "mechanic" that does not do this professionally it is a nice compromise to balance it out.
