I have a 1972 with 350-200hp manual tyranny I do not know what this part is called and what function it does. It is inline from intake vacuum to the distributor advance. Do not know how to test it or if it is working. I’ve removed the looped hose that was there when I bought the car and have properly connected vacuum. But since it was looped the last owner might of done that because it wasn’t working??

For emission purposes vacuum advance was only avail in 4th gear for a manual or 3rd gear for an automatic. The car will run better having the vacuum coming directly from a manifold source, vacuum at idle and when cruising.
