Default Behind Right Kick Panel, '69 Convertible?

Can anyone tell me what this is behind the right (passenger side) kick panel in my '69 Convertible? The kick panel had been butchered to make it fit, since the item protrudes out toward the interior. I haven't tried Google yet hoping someone here might be able to answer and advise on what to do so that the original kick panel style can be used again. Thanks.

It is the fresh air vent operated by the vacuum when the HVAC systems are turned on. There is a thin rubber pad/gasket/seal that is used to make the metalflapper air tight. I can’t see if your gasket is ok. The vacuum module should open and close the door, if the lines are in working order. Willcox has write ups on these units, as well as the vac lines.
