Blew the motor on my '72 the other night. Noticed a tick on startup recently, thought little of it. Friday night, on the interstate the engine decided it was done, and threw a rod.
Seeing as this is my daily, I'm already looking at a crate motor from Summit for it, maybe with a bit more power than before
With this, looks like my MG Midget vintage racecar build is going on serious hold.
Takes a real man to fess up to that!
You have a great attitude. I would be a basket case for a while!!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m really upset about it, but what’s done is done. Sadly, won’t be a numbers matching car, but I’ll get a good new motor, and a cool table I suppose.
Been there. I also ignored the tick. It was almost 35 years ago. Whatever you do not toss that original block. It may be able to be saved. Sorry to hear. Good luck.
Sorry to hear this! Good luck with your new engine. We’re having a new crate engine installed in our ‘72 hopefully this week. Ours didn’t blow, but it was only a matter of time.

Block is very much cracked and would need full machining on the inside if salvageable at all. Gonna keep it, but make some furniture outta it. Now I'm just exploring my options for crate motors.
Can't you just run it like the newfangled engines in 4 cylinder mode??? Kidding aside, sorry you're having to deal with this, but as others have said, glad you're making lemonade out of lemons.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-OEM-NEW-...cAAOSwcT1cwdCF something to be said for new made by GM. as opposed to what bob's crates decided to build it with... google them and call them. they may be able to do man fuel pump version and more hp than this base engine. fredericksburg VA.

Sorry for your loss ... the above crate recommended by DD is a good choice and its fuel pump pad can be completed locally.
But the below crate is even a bit better as it is the 4-bolt main version. Either of these are great performers as is. Dealer Radley has best prices on these. And both are all brand new parts. Way under $1K will get a Hot cam swap for its stock small roller and springs and complete the pump pad.

Wound up getting a JEGS 260hp 350 for 1600, which I'm of course going to do a little to bump up the power. Went with a motor I could afford right now to get the car back on the road immediately.
Low oil pressure. I saw the gauge was low and thought it was a bad gauge like an idiot...
Dont beat yourself up too much. I did the same thing to a 'rebuilt' 350. (My buddy ASSURED me his brother had rebuillt the motor a while back)
Well, I did like you, watched my oil gauge zero out while idling and just assumed it was a bad box store part. My results werent as dramatic as yours but I lost the engine too. Live and learn. Thats what its all about.
