While I am waiting on all the parts to arrive, I've been brain storming the best way to wire the new switch into the mess that is my wiring harness (original pig tail from harness to back up switch connector is gone). I think the easiest way is if someone out there has a 1979 4 speed with working back up lights that could take a picture of the switch connection to the main harness. At least then I could see what color wires to look for.

As long as they didn't change from early C3's the wires should be green and pink.

Have you checked behind the dash? The switch wiring on my '68 ran from behind the dash through a grommet on the firewall near the wiper motor. I would guess if someone snipped the connector they may have pushed the wires back through the firewall.

Side note, I will check my old harness later to see if I have the switch connector and some length of wire attached to it. If I still have it I can ship it out to ya.

Good idea, I'll look behind the dash. I've searched and searched in the engine compartment for absolutely anything left of those wires but I haven't done a down and dirty in depth search behind the dash, firewall and under the car. I'll get dirty in the search on my next day off. Someone tapped into the harness at two different locations over the years and really made a mess.
