I would like to put a alternator noise filter on my 1980, I am getting wine when listening to AM stations only. Has anyone tried this and if so did it help?
On AM only? It's more likely RFI- "radio frequency interference"-caused by dist/sparkplug/wires/ missing shielding.
Before wasting a bunch of time try to clean up the alternator noise -AKA "AC whine"- simply disconnect the plug into the alternator- start up the car- if the noise is still there - then it is from your ignition system.

The noise you are hearing in the radio could be ignition noise and/or alternator noise in the DC electircal system. Simple condenser (capacitor) filters were used by GM to stifle that noise, along with ignition system shielding. If you still have the Delco radio in your car, putting filter capacitors on all the motor, switch and alternator circuits might fix your problem. You could buy just one noise suppressor capacitor and stick it in the alternator line just to see if it solves your problem. There was one on the blower motor, turn signals, flasher module, and brake switch, as well. Only install those that are needed for you listening pleasure.
