Guys,
Anyone tried red LEDs for dash lights? In my friend’s Audi last night and all his interior lighting was red from the factory and looked really cool. Thanks much
Here's a couple of photos from mine. In the first photo I hadn't checged the small gauges. Note I used white LEDs but painted the reflective surfaces red. Red LEDs may look a little different.
I think all military aircraft use red lighting....supposed to be easier on the eyes for long periods of time.....the main benefit is the cockpit isn't illuminated (think pitch black sky with enemy looking for anything to shoot at once they hear the blade noise).
We used the small red glass bulbs back then/easy on the eyes. (and yes, my gauge bulbs are red)
After I was discharged I worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach for 6 1/2 years. All cockpit instrument lights in DC 9's and 10's are red and IMHO they are hard on your eyes. I believe red is supposed to affect your night blindness the least, but I'm not trying to sneak up on the enemy. Therefore I'll take green any day of the week.

I don't think too many dc9 or 10 pilots are trying to sneak up on the enemy. But I can see why they would want to reduce night blindness. I prefer my red as it matches the red interior.
