It is with a heavy heart i write this... But we lost a '68 to flames today... She was a great car, even with all her flaws and idiosyncrasies. And that's one less out there for someone to enjoy down the line... No one was injured, thank goodness. Remember to get out there and drive em and treat em well fellas. Accidents can happen in a flash...

hope a follow up on this is okay.....
Hagerty check finally arrived. So for anyone who is curious, their turn around time is about 5 weeks. Keep that in mind, i guess!
And, the obligatory new vehicle shot.... The first pics were actually taken on the ashes of the other (you can see bits on the ground still), and given the whole symbolism of everything, I think Jean is a wonderful name for her. (Maybe a few of you comic nerds get the reference :P )
Thanks for the well wishes and what not. It is insured through Hagerty, so everything should be okay. Long weekend so i wont really know anything until tomorrow at the earliest.
As to what caused it, i have no idea. I had been driving for a couple of hours yesterday, kind of off and on. Stopping to hike and take in the view. This time i stopped to check out the river that this particular road followed. I wasnt down there but a couple of minutes... I came back to a view of the second picture.. Car utterly engulfed in flames!! As far as i know, there was not a fuel leak.. Maybe wiring? I really cant even guess. There was no smell. The car was not acting funny. One minute she is fine, the next she was not. I think that is the scariest part of all of this. Had i not pulled over when i did, i may have wound up inside all of this. I tried to time how long i was down at the river vs how long the ride back down took, and there was no where to pull over down the road. i would have had to stop in the middle of the road, and that is assuming i had time to do anything. The timing on this was perfect, as far as bad stuff goes. No other cars or people were around, i didnt destroy a road or start a forest fire, and i got out of it just before it ignited... I couldnt have been more lucky if i tried.. Minus, you know, 6/7 years of my heart and soul going up in flames.
Very sorry to hear of your loss. Very fortunate that the circumstances happened in the event that they did.
Hopefully once the insurance companies finish the investigation you may be able to share any insight. of what may of happened. Until then and even after it is all speculation.
Everything rubber or wire is gone/melted in the front half of the car (and prbably through a good chunk of the back as well). I would be really interested to know how they investigate it..
