Has anybody had a problem with their side rear view mirror being blown out of position at highway speed.
This is happening on my 68. Is this just my mirror
and should I buy a new one? Or a design flaw and expect this to happen with a new one as well.
this is very common on both driver and passenger side mirrors. There are number of posts that will give you step by step instructions to repair the tension on the ball socket. It’s probably easier to Google Corvette rear mirrors drooping. I had to fix mine twice because, the first time I didn’t make the “friction bar” tight enough. Pretty easy fix.
I've had good results using GREEN Loctite. Aim the mirror towards the ground, dribble in the Loctite, and set the mirror where you want it. Have something under the mirror to catch any drips.
Not a suitable fix if you like to play with your mirror. 😉
Same thing on my '70. Seems it's a very common problem. The swivels are worn. You can try the different "fixes" (results seemed to be mixed), but I decided to just replace them both with new mirrors. Problem solved. Look and work great.
Since I've had my '69, I've replaced the side mirror about 3 times over 20 years. I've done the mirror fix once, and it lasted a long time but eventually wears off. Just replaced it again last year. The new mirror I got from Zip Corvette is tighter than any I've had in the past.....if fact, very tight. Glad they are being made tighter. Perhaps I'll never have to buy another one.

Thiscweekend i tok a center punch and punched along the ball at all extremes, then the mirror fell out, so i was able to use red locktight on the ball from the inside. Its not moving now
