Default Steeroids

Have anyone experience of the Steeroids rack and pinion, sold by SpeedDirect among others?
I’m thinking of upgrading.
Any recommendations? It’ for a -69
Thanks!

You will get varying opinions on this subject. I have had stock, Steeroids and currently the Borgeson steering box. Both the Steeroids and Borgeson are an upgrade from stock. I prefer the Borgeson for one it is cheaper and a much simpler design and easy to put on. I did not like all the angles of the steering linkage and it hangs down lower and is more bulky. Either one is OK just up to the personal taste of the owner.

I have had the Steeroids for many years now. It works very well and is a huge improvement over stock. Installation is petty straightforward except for aligning the U-joints in the steering shaft. That takes the bulk of the time and can get pretty frustrating, but it can be done. I had a problem a few years ago with one of the U-joints coming apart. Speed Direct was pretty good about it. I don't think they charged me for the replacement but I'm not sure. I keep a pretty close eye on them now and so far so good.

I've had one installed for a few years now. I like it BUT make sure you do something to reduce the stock pressure.

It makes the steering feel so much better.

My 69 has the Borg set-up, very nice upgrade, it makes the steering feel direct. The 6t8 has Steeroids, it is very quick steering and seems to require the driver to pay more attention to steering the car. T

I have Steeroids in my 74. Love it
The only thing I would do differently is grind out the frame lip where the connector rod comes down beside it. It's just way to close for my liking.

I have steeroids on my Vette. As noted by others, alignment of the u-joints is the toughest part of the install. I like that you can adjust for bump steer in the steeroids tie rods. I have absolutely no bump steer in my car now.

The one issue I had was play in the lower bearing in the steering column. I put a new bearing in, but it still had play. I found that I needed to push the bearing retainer up as hard as I could by hand and then tighten a clamp around it to keep it there. This helped immensely. What I plan to do in the future is make a billet aluminum holder for a ball bearing to go over the shaft and attach to the housing to take all play out of the shaft. Any play in the shaft causes play at the steering wheel.

I converted to Steeroids a month ago and love it. It cleared my Hedman headers just barely. It was easy to install by myself. I agree on reducing the PS pump pressure.
If you need it I can send you the link for the shims on Amazon. I recomment going to 1000psi. I went to 850 and that is a little low.

I have it on my 73. Super happy with my tight and quick steering.

I am interested in reducing the pump pressure on my Steeroids setup. It is a little too sensitive. How did you do it?

You take these shims and put them on the pump valve. Super easy.
The hardest part is pulling out the pump and getting it back in. With Steeroids the high pressure line is REALLY short. In fact I would recommend getting one that is 2 inches longer if you're going to take the pump out more than one. It took a few cuss words to get it back on after the conversion.

Here is a YouTube video on how to do it.

I would suggest going to 1000psi. 850, I keep feeling like it is catching on something. Maybe I will get used to it though.

There is a table that shows how many shims you need. I think it is 2 to go to 1000psi.

Read this

Reduce the flow first.

Here is the factory vs the flow restrictor I used for my flaming river rack.
