79 charging trouble
Can anyone tell me if the red wire on the back of my alternator should be battery voltage constant or Ignition voltage only when key is on? Not the ground wire and not the plug on top but the bolt on back of alt that goes to power! This is original setup and not a single wire alt

The stud on the back of the alternator is "hot" all the time. One of the wires into the 2 position plug is also hot all the time- the other small wire is the exciter and is only hot when the key is on.
