Default Is that a serious rust issue?

Hey, im new here and hope some experts can help me. I m looking for a 1973 C3 to buy.
The owner send me theese pics of crtical areas. Im not sure what to think about it.
I read that the area close to to windshiled can be a serious rust problem. Now i see in the Pictures that there is/was some rust..but is it serious? should i rather run away?
As i live more or less far away from the vette i cant check the kickpanels..but you think its worth to go there to check with the shown issue already?
thanks for your help and greetings

wiper area seems ok isnt it?

crossmember rust?
greetings
Flo

Florian....thats not what I'm seeing. {rust}

1. The top of the A pillar/door area is a BONDING area....they mostly look like 'shizzle' there from the factory. I'd pull the top of the A pillar post and look at the windshield frame....not bad in the pix.
2. Crossmember rust.....HARDLY.....that's patina my boy! LOL
3. The rear spring is SHOT and has lost its everything..... remove and replace! Fer gods' sake the curve is going in the opposite direction!

Good luck....car looks pretty good!

Hey L-46 Man,
thx for you answer..im not worried about the bonding stuff. Its more about the holes in that area..also some part is cut out. You have an idea why? Its highlighted in the pics below.
About the "Patina" i thought the same..acceptable/normal
Thanks man!
Greetings. Flo

Flo.....really tough to tell. My impression was that someone replaced one of the fenders.....that's why pulling the upper A pillar trim would really tell the tale.

one spot is on the door, near the seal....so yes that should be repaired.. I don't consider that 'major' rust. But of course, where you find SOME....there's more! Generally the lower you go in the birdcage/doors, the worse it gets.

The other near the trim plate is more concerning....bottom outside of A pillar post.

I commiserate....buying a car based on pictures, just SUCKS!

I ,for one, won't do it.....

Don't let the PHX slay you....I'm a norther Vermonter and I cut my teeth on rusty cars (which is one reason I moved to AZ!)

good luck get more details before you shell out $$$.

those pics are terrible

Could be a rusted hole circled in post #3 to the right of the trim tag . The left circle highlights , well not really much at all , that area has a dip in the metal there, might be just rough as its covered in glue .

second picture in #3 left circle , well could be just glue slopped around .. right circle , rust hole maybe

about the trim tag area (which I'm guessing has been removed and put back on ), I took that fibreglass trim panel off a 74 , several rivets and some bonding at the bottom ,the area at the top isn't bonded ,just some sealer under it , looked all good but under was rotten , moisture had got to it , no sign of rust streaks from outside .

If you still want the car ,travel to see it personally but get permission first to use a screwdriver and have a look at the #2 mounts , If owner says no over the phone , forget it

personally ,I would pass on it , there is rust there ,just how bad is unknown.

Have a member go check it out..

That trim tag esp the rivets looks pretty funky to me.
You have to look at these in person or have someone who knows these (not just old cars in general) check them out, get it on a lift, drive it.
Too old to judge from pics...at one point somoene spraypainted the bottom .Not a bad thing just saying who knows whats been done to these over the years.

Simple answer is YES! The pictures are terrible and if thats the best the seller can do then it is not worth a 600 mile drive. I see the holes you are talking about and my car does not have them and holes are serious.. Where there is smoke there is often fire, they made a lot of these cars....

Pull the window frame trim, and the lower kick panel. That will tell you how bad the problem is. Just a couple of screws.

The original poster has not been here for about 4 years and passed on buying the car. Need to let this thread die.

Talk about beating a dead horse! This issue happens all the time, years-old threads then people start posting not realizing the OP is long-gone! Totally irrelevant, issue NEEDS to be addressed! Maybe lock it down ASAP? Mods, Admin, thoughts? Regards, LowSporty
