I have a clicking sound in the rear of my 1980, I figure it is a half shaft u-joint. Did some viewing of u tube videos and upon removal of the joint on the half shaft flange the guy bent the flange, oops. The next video the guy used a spindle flange bolted to the half shaft flange for support. He had bought a used one at a swap meet. He then suggested to remove the spindle flange for the support if you didn't have a extra one. Is there a basic backer flange , I guess I'll call it a tool that someone sells or is it a common practice to remove the spindle flange to do this procedure ? And I guess ,are the C3 spindle flanges all the same in case some one has good used one for sale ?
I guess after doing more research I'm a little confused. I see some suppliers say 63-82 spindle flanges, some say 80-81 . The 80-81 have u-joint straps so a extra backer flange isn' t needed. Under the car I go to take a look in the morning.

Well I looked under the 80 and it has u-joint straps on the spindle side. So it will be a normal u-joint change out and won't have to worry about the half shaft flange as there isn't one.
