Default trunk liner

Does anyone know what holds up the carpeted piece above the rear compartment? On my car its hanging down towards the floor and I can see that its carpet covered fibreboard with grill type cutouts etc. I'm not sure if its glued on or there are supposed to be screw or something that hold it up.

Any one know?

The drop down fiberboard shelf in the rear with grills on it is for holding the rear window when it's out and shouldn't have any carpet on it.

Oh okay I see. I could've sworn there was carpet on it, perhaps I'm mistaken. Is there some sort of clip or mechanism that holds it up? Right now its pretty much hanging down and blocking the entire trunk area.

Yes. There is a spring type clip at the front mounted with 2 bolt head screws that holds the window tray up. I think you can still buy the spring piece but not sure about the handle. Sorry for the poor pic but a camera in one hand, a flashlight in the other and a beer in the third is kind of hard to do all at once. This is a 69.

I think I might be missing that clip entirely as the tray is hanging down all the way. I haven't really tried moving it or taking it out so it might still be attached to the car at the rear. I will take a look this weekend and see if I can just remove it entirely or if I will have to buy new hardware.

It's easy to remove. There is a hinge on either side at the back that just bolts up to the rear bulkhead.

A 68 does not bolt up to the back wall like a 69 does. It has an integral spring hinge and you have to have it laying down and remove the eight small screws holding the hinge to the back wall and their is hardly any room to do so. Lou.

Didn't know it was a 68. Is the front clip that holds it up the same? I know that spring clip on a 69 is about 20 bucks but the clip handles are over 50.

Good to know, might have to get the wife to get in there. I'd rather remove it since I don't think I'll ever take the rear window out and store it. I'd like to free up the trunk space and im pretty sure the front Handle and hardware is all missing.

So it looks like I am missing some mounting hardware. This is what I have at the moment.

wow , looks like someone put speakers up there . not supposed to be like that .

They all seem to tend to sag down from age , but the weight of that carpet has made yours bow a lot more .

If you have the original spring hinges , there's always some one looking for original equipment for NCRS stuff.

I have a 68 one here under some heavy stuff , trying to straighten it up.

But , a lot of guys actually put a removable rear window in there vettes , from 73-77 , that window got stuck in the coupes. It feels good to have that out and cruising on a summers day .

I'm going to attempt to remove it. I could see the mounting point in the rear, i'll probably need a long screwdriver to even attempt to reach that far back.
