Hey guys I had another question. I opened up the centre console and I can’t tell whether I am missing the neutral switch that controls the backup lights. My reverse lights don’t work at the moment.
I also saw that there is a 68 and 69 style of switch and again since my car is all sorts of different year parts I can’t tell if I would need a 68 or 69 switch
It's easy to tell if the switch is working. Does the car start in drive and reverse? It shouldn't. Should have at least a purple wire that goes to the start circuit.

I'll try a finding another link then. But the diagram showed it mounted to the passsenger side and the wiring pigtails wherejust a few inches long.
Should have thought to check Ernies site first......
seems like mine is absent, nothing on the passenger side. I have a feeling its missing because the car was changed from a 4spd to auto somewhere along the line.

that could be it, I wonder of you could find a wiring diagram and add it in. If the backup light harness is there for the manual tranny you could just wire in a toggle switch for the backup lamps
That is a good deal. The switch alone is around that much, i think id rather just buy the switch since its brand new, who knows how old the switch on that listing is.
I just replaced the harness in my 69. All the connectors/wires are there for either a manual or an auto trans. Just plug in the ones you need or not. I ran a wire from the console neutral start switch out thru the firewall to a terminal for a remote start button. Handy for adjusting valves as a one man show. Just make sure the 4 speed is in neutral before you hit the button.
I was looking at the 69/69 switches and it appears the only difference is what the plug connectors look like. The mounting point to the gear shift both look the same. Is this the only difference? Theoretically I would be able to determine which switch i need by looking at the connectors that are coming out of my harness?
