Dears,
I've again a problem with my wife Vette (year77).
After 3 week not using it not start anymore, I was thinking the battery and I charged it for one full day.
All the internal light are ok the voltmetro sign 13V but when I turn the key nothing, all silence.
What can be ?
Which procedure I can fillow do debug the problem (sorry for my term I'm a software programmer ;-)) ?
Should I check the fuse ? Where they are ? how to see if they are not ok ?
Could be the key lock ? How to check ? How to disaseemble that part ?
Hi Ivanoman, lots of possible causes of your problem!
Do you have a test meter and know how to use it?
I'm guessing this has not happened before?
Check the easy things first, are the battery connections tight?
Can you see the wiring connections onto the starter motor, are these tight?
You are going to have to find out if there is power coming from the keyswitch to the solenoid on the starter motor when the keyswitch is turned to the start position, can you do this with a 12 Volt test light or a test meter? If you cant do this test I would suggest you ask for help from someone who can.
Once this test is done we can figure out from the result what to look at next.
Can you turn on the headlamps? If they light, try to start the car again with them on. If the lights dim, but still nothing, the battery is "toast". It is holding voltage, but very little current.....no capacity. If the lights do not dim, you have a problem with the neutral starts switch OR the ignition lock-out mechanism OR the starter solenoid OR battery cables/terminals.
derekderek, how did you get a picture of my battery ground cable. LOL That is exactly what it looked like when my car didn't start. Changed out to a new one and it fired right up. IvanoMan, you should check the battery ground cable to the cross member. It is connected right under the battery on the cross member. If it looks like the above picture you found the problem.
I got it!
Remebering that my mec touch the console he suggested to check the level of the automatic transmission.
I moved it to N and then to P and voilà vette start.
May be was a false contact in the switch.
Thank you for all your suggestions
