I have looked everywhere but can't find a place to find a replacement for the 4 speed decal for my 1979 l82. Any suggestions? Mine is all torn up! Thanks!
Thank you for such a quick response. Never used ebay because I don't have PayPal so hopefully they take another payment method. Appreciate it 71 Green!
You might want to shoot a couple of coats of satin clear over that new plate before installing it. That should limit the scuffs and scratches on it in the future.

Pay attention to the shipping costs. I shop ebay alot more than the vendors for small orders because the vendors want $10 bucks to ship a $2 part most of the time. And yes ebay is run by capitalists, they will take almost any form of payment
A cheap item to replace yes but also easy to refinish. Mine was close to being as bad as yours but a little time invested was to me worth while. I did the entire console plate but replaced the smaller decal with the data as that was all dented

Nice job, I still have the original finish on my '71.

If you go to the Mid America site they want $14.99 + $10 to ship
Go to Ebay and Mid America wants $17.99 but shipping is free

Thank you all for responding I will definitely look around and at the shipping prices. How dod you redo the original one? I like that idea if I can make it as nice as yours once again!
Easy process:
1. Strip off ALL old paint...best to use a chemical stripper so no damage to the surface underneath;
2. Clean the part with detergent, then rinse, rinse, rinse all detergent residue off. Dry part.
3. Shoot satin black on the whole part. After 5-7 minutes, use a clean cotton cloth dampened with lacquer thinner to wipe off the top surface that you want to be chrome.
4. Repeat step 3.
5. Allow to fully cure for 3 days minimum. Install.
You might be able to shave off the top layer of paint with a sharp X-Acto knife or razor blade; but that surface isn't perfectly flat and some unwanted paint will remain. So lacquer thinner is required, either way.

But I did one layer of primer on the bare metal and before that gave it a light scuff with a 1200 sanding block to give it a key. Used the thinners method to clean paint off the chrome on the decal and entire console plate on a cotton bud.
