Default Learn from my dumb mistake at gas station...

So, I was filling up the '68. Some people came over and were asking me about the car. As we were having a good conversation, I was dumping a bottle of octane boost in the tank (435, pings if I don't add it). I was 'holding' the cap and bottle at the same time as I was pouring the boost in the tank. Guess what happened next? You know it - plunk goes the cap into the tank. I looked in and saw it floating very nicely on top of the gas that was left in the tank. We all laughed about it while figuring out the options. One of the guys said "I have small hands, let me see if I can get it because that's the largest gas opening I've ever seen (no way would my hand fit)". Sure enough, he fishes it out no problem.

I buy them all a pizza and we had more conversations including the following: "Do you have to add that with every fill up?" "Yes". "That must cost a lot". "Not too bad, but it makes up for it in gas mileage". "Really??" We had a good laugh and a good time. Never a dull moment in our C3s, and we meet nice people while we're at it.

Rule #2
When something stupid or embarrassing occurs , you will have a crowd to watch it happen

I was at a show and a guy asked where the wipers where. He was floored that they where hidden under the door. So I turn on the car, turn on the wipers, shhhh-thunk-flip-flip-flip, They pop open, wipe the window and I shut off, flip-flip,click, whir, click, whir, click, whir... they wont park...we laugh and I'm standing outside the car and say how they need moisture to close properly so I reach in, push the wiper button to get them to wash, and whirrrr, squirt, splash, cough...the solid stream of blue fluid hits the windshield, splashes off it and right into my face, more laughing, but the motor is programmed to do it 3 times....

they didnt park until I was leaving the show an hour later, about a mile down the road

I had run down my fuel quantity in order to test the fuel quantity sender. It turned out the fuel quantity gauge was bad. Replaced the fuel gauge now off to the filling station. I had about two inches of fuel in the tank and decided that would be enough to make the ½ mile drive to the filling station. We have a stoplight at our subdivision exit. Only needed to make a right turn then go about 100 yards and make a left turn into the station. A guy was waiting to make a left turn at the light and was also blocking my right turn lane. I shut off the engine and waited for the green. Got the green, turned right, now headed downhill, then got stalled in the left turn lane waiting for opposite two lane traffic to clear. Traffic clears, I start forward...then run out of gas and stall blocking opposite direction traffic. A couple of people got out of their cars and pushed me up onto the filling station apron. Very embarrassed but thankful for the help. Needed another push to the pumps...looked up and realized all of the pumps were encircled by caution tape...the pumps were out of service! Although just a couple of feet from the pumps, I had to call AAA for a couple of gallons of gas...not one of my better C3 days.

Regards,
Tom69

You are exactly right. I've lost many plastic wiper door bushing down the hole from hell where the Astro Ventilation air goes even though I put towels to plug the hole to keep it from happening. I do get them back by taking the kick panel off and shoving my vacuum up in the hole from below. Guess I'm not the only one who's done that because I found more bushing the last time I had to do it than what I dropped. LOL

I have a 1/2 inch socket inside the door of a Mustang in an auto junkyard in PA that fell in there back in 1974 while I was removing the window crank mechanism. I could see it but could not get it out. I also have a Rottweiler that will pick up small objects on my garage floor, carry them out in the yard and bury them. Weeks later I will find them dirty and chewed to pieces back on the garage floor.

There actually is a good rule #4. It's a good repair job if you get to buy another tool.

^^^^ It would be interesting to know what 'finds' those who have taken the bodies off (or done other major work) have found when taking everything apart. Sockets, magnets, do not touch signs, etc.

I've got one of those.
It can be used for anything.
I once used mine to grab the neck of a baby rattle snake that was hiding between a couple boxes in my garage.
He didn't even seem to mind even when I let him loose.
