'77 Radiator Question

My 77, L48, automatic had a 3 row from the factory. I upgraded to an L82 style stock replacement, which is a 4 row. My car had factory air originally.

I originally bought a generic replacement radiator which was a 3 row and I had overheating problems - with all the seals, shroud etc in place. I changed to the same generic brand 4 row, specd as an L82 replacement, with auto trans and AC, and the problems disappeared.
