Looking to replace my splash shields, which are the white plastic type.
They're cracked in places and have been oversprayed with undercoating.
In researching replacements, seems the plastics were used on 68s and early 69s, then they changed to the metal type.
Strange, because mine is a July 69 build [typically "late"?].
Am I stuck having to replace them with plastic ones? Or are the attachments the same for both types?
I'd prefer to replace with the black metal shields instead of the white plastic ones.

My 69 had the plastic shields, both had cracks. I replaced with the metal ones, no problem.
My newly bought 69 project came with plastic and metal shields.....which are going to go straight in the trash, as I am not using them. I need to look at them to see their condition, but if the are good, and you want them, you can have them for free.....you paying for the shipping. Let me know.
Thanks Flyboy, I have shields too, I am curious of if anyone had any insight or trivia on why the shield are 'white.' I'm doing an on-frame partial restoration of my 69 (profile pic) that i bought back from a friend who my father sold it to before he passed away. Lacquer paint is 36 years old, but looks great, but she has her beauty marks. Bottomline is, I want to keep her a driver, but a REALLY nice driver. So I am dressing out engine compartment: everything repainted, powdwercoated or replaced, but not going for NCRS minutia.

BTW- I assume by your avatar "Flyboy" you are a pilot. I am retired Marine aviator and United Airlines pilot.
My '69 born on Oct 1969. So is considered "late" but has many indicators of an 'early' production: coffee can vacuum actuator, white splash panels, and one other that escapes me. I have read that the factory was emptying out the parts bins of all outdated parts to make way for updated versions. Not concerned about anything, just love the trivia.
As the O.P., just wanted to update the thread:
After a year of use, the replacement white plastic shields took a bit of a beating.
I think I remember grazing a driveway entrance ramp over the summer, and that cracked one of the shields pretty good, and the second one ended up with broken tabs as I removed it. (must be some brittle plastic).
I ended up going with new black steel shields from CC vendor and installed them (also installed new lower brackets to the floor pan, as the originals were pretty poor in shape. (I also needed an excuse to use my new pneumatic rivet gun!)
Interestingly, the passenger steel shield ended up coming as a loose grey steel shield so I needed to spray a few coats of black semi-gloss on that.
And the driver shield came in a plastic bag, and ended up being 2 shields stuck together. So, I have a spare replacement for the future!
Also - in the case of both the plastic and the steel shields, I needed to do a little edge trimming to fit around my header flange that connects to the exhaust pipe on the passenger side.
