Default 1969 Baldwin Motion build

I bought my 1969 corvette roadster over 2 years ago and have been picking people’s brains here ever since. I really appreciate all the help I’ve been getting with knowledge and buying parts for this build. I realize now how much time and effort it takes just to dig out old photos when you want to show someone something. I have taken over 2000 photos during my disassembly and now (finally!!) rebuilding process.

I’m building it as a Baldwin Motion tribute car with some modern goodies. Anyone with any information or pieces from MP feel free to give me advice or if you have something for sale, I’m always looking for Motion performance pieces for the car.

Here are some pictures of my journey so far.

This is how I bought the car. Some fine 70’s custom work!! All white leather interior and what car from the 70’s wouldn’t be complete without a chain steering wheel!!!!

Pulled the gas tank and build sticker still on it!! Pretty cool find but very hard to read. Car was in a garage since mid 80’s at least supposedly and traced some owners back and it looks like it has been a local NY car its whole life. Trying to find the Blawdin Chevy dealer #........maybe it at least started life in that dealership??????

I took the body off with my 2 post lift which made it extremely easy and a one man job. I had friends over because I was extremely nervous and only missed one wire I believe. Got a lot of help on here about pulling the body and building a dolly for it. Only the #4 bolts were rusted. One seized up and the other nut spun in the cage. I snapped them off to lift the body and installed new cages for them. The other bolts came out like they were put on yesterday. Found no other rust issues on birdcage or frame.

Some Dynomat and padding on the interior. I also put reflective heat shielding on the underside. Should be nice and cool on the feet!!

Powder coated frame, big block and driveline all ready. I also cut the transmission crossmember and welded in the brackets so in the future I can always just drop the transmission out if I ever decide to go with the 5 speed!!!

Body back on car. Test fitting the Motion hood. found the hood out in LI by a lady whose husband had put on her 1970 corvette six months after buying it. I believe its a real motion hood but who knows.

Car got stripped of paint and old bodywork and bruises starting to show up. Had to get some panels replaced but otherwise not too bad.

What’s going on with these gills???????

The painting begins!!!!!!

I traded that steering wheel with another member quite a while ago!! Should be hanging up in his garage as art.

I'm a child of that era and recall the Motion Performance Chevies pretty well, except for the Corvettes. I always saw Camaro's or Chevelles.

Their formula was pretty simple; L89/L88, low rear gears, headers, big tires.

IIRC Your red accents appear to be correct, same for the hood. I'd imagine some of their magazines have to be in someones basement or garage.

I had a white 69 Coupe back in the day. 350/350 car, red interior with an M-22 trans though! A rare combo there. It got run over by a school bus in 1971 or so. Totalled but bought by a body shop and brought back to life. New owner changed colors and engine.

LOVE what you're doing to yours!
