Depends on what you expect from your car and how you drive it.
Any suspension modifications?
Are you strictly looking for a smoother ride for cruising as opposed to maybe doing autocross or other competition events?

When I bought my '73, the previous owner had installed KYB Gas-a-Just shocks. I hated the ride. Replaced the steel rear leaf spring with a composite spring which helped some but I improved the ride quite a bit when I replaced the KYBs with Bilstein HDs. Some guys like the Bilstein Sports better.
I just put kyb a-justs on my 74... I believe the shocks that were on the car were 45 years old... totally shot and not holding pressure.. day and night difference but I have nothing else to compare it to. when I hit a bump in the road the car no longer hops to the side.. ride feels smoother. Rock auto had a price that couldnt be beat plus theres a rebate going on right now.
I was going to go with ac delcos but after reading about how ac delco is just rebranded stuff now anyway well...
I had an 84 z51 before this car so this feels like a Cadillac by comparision and I dont expect the handling from a 55+ year old suspension platform nor do I need it in my situation.

I put a set of KYB KG4550 and KG5501's on my '72 LT-1 last May. Very good shocks for the money. I wanted a stock ride. They replaced some very worn out Delco shocks, which were not original. Car handles and rides much better. Certainly not the last word in handling, but I wanted a stock feel and heard mixed reviews on the Delcos that are available.

These are the ones I'm installing right now, and the story is the same as gguillot. I have a 7-leaf spring and rear sway bar and these stopped the hopping I was experiencing with the worn shocks as well as improving the ride quality. I can't compare them to Bilstiens, but I'm very happy with the improvement I'm feeling, and the price from Rockauto was too good to pass up.
I had KYB's on the 66' in the avatar with a composite mono in the rear........it handled great buck liked to buck like a Jeep over tight whoopdie doos.....it was my only gripe with them though.
Price is almost the same. Which brand would you prefer?
Thanks
I'm still running on the KYB's I mentioned a couple of posts ago. Still liking the ride. Was on a very patchy, twisty road this past weekend and thought about how controlled the suspension was. Now, if I can only get the steering to feel the same....
