Default 1968 Radio

Can anyone tell me how I can identify the correct radio for a 1968 corvette? P/N? Identifying features? Dial color? I would like to know how to identify both the Mono version and the Stereo version for a 68.
Thanks

'68-71 dial numbers were a faint greenish color; thereafter, they were a bright white color. The stereo radios had a small, round stereo light which lit when a station broadcasting in stereo was tuned it. The mono radios do not have this light.

The '68 stereo radio was a real "contraption", as it had a special tuner module that came with it (another metal box on the radio). '69 and later stereo models had a solid state stereo tuner system built into the standard radio head. ALL '68-77 Delco C3 radios came with a "convector" unit. This was the final stage of amplification for the radio, and it consisted of an aluminum heat sink with power transistor[s] attached: one transistor for mono units and two transistors for stereo units. The convector was mounted behind the right-side dash pad and had a harness connecting it to the radio head unit. Each working radio MUST HAVE a matching convector unit if it is to function.

68 Radios have a different long speaker wire with the wire connector. that my also be different than a 69. I did not know that the 68 stereo tuner was different, thank you! Lou.

Thanks folks. I have a radio in my 68 that may or may not be correct for the car. The previous owner only told me that he purchased it at a car show. The ***** are wrong but the radio may be correct. I have not pulled it to check numbers or any "contraption" that may be attached. I have also been loaned a radio with the following numbers, part no. 7302721, 01VFP3. I think this is a 69/70 radio from some information I found on the internet. It does not have any extra module attached. I am trying to make sure I have the correct radio for a 68, whether it is mono or stereo. In the end, I will probably have the correct looking radio modified to modern components but still haven't made up my mind for sure. Just hoping to get the right information to figure out what may have been in a 68. I do not have a build sheet so I can only guess. Since most had mono, that is probably what my 68 had. It appears to be a pretty basic build. Thanks again

Post a pic of what you have installed in the car.

I attempted to post two pictures of the radio that is currently in the car. I was able to see the number on the side of the radio. The number was 7937571. I googled that number and it appears that number is associated with a 1972 corvette.

It is a '72-'77 radio, as it has bright white dial numbers/letters. I think it is a mono radio, as I do not see the stereo light on the faceplate.

If you are going to have that unit rebuilt, you should ask for it to be a stereo system with AM/FM capability and any other features you wish to be installed. They can convert your mono head into a stereo head with no problem. It already has an AM/FM tuner.

How safe would it be to say that any mono radio from 68 to 71 will look the same with regard to what you see sticking out of the dash. And if that part is true, then the only other thing that would be specific to the 68 would be the *****. Can I make that same statement with regard to 68 to 71 with regard to the am/fm stereo radios? That those years will all look the same with regard to what you see sticking out the dash. Again, all stereo radios from 68 to 71 will have one round light to indicate stereo stations?
Thanks in advance

Not sure about 69 to 71 stereo radios but I know the 68 had the stereo was written in script.

Good to know about the 68 stereo radio having the stereo indicator written in script. I saw a radio like that on a YouTube site but thought that might be something they added when they updated the radio using state of the art modules. Now I know. Thanks
