Ok, so I need to lift off the body to do the gas lines on my 69. I also want to update the rear lines to SS and to lay a coat of POR-15 on the frame rail top (I have already got
the bottom and sides). I do not own a large garage, it's a typical 2 car garage if the 2 cars are Honda Civics, maybe. So I got to thinking, could I lift the body off the frame using QuickJack
enough to do what I want? Has anyone out there tried this?
Yeah, that's a good idea as well - but I have no place to put the body itself. So I was thinking the quickjack could elevate the body a foot or so of the frame while I run the gas and brake lines and
attend to the top of the frame rail.
Just didn't know if anyone has attempted this yet or if it was even a good idea to try.
you would have to raise the body to get the QJ between the bird cage and the frame. engine hoist and straps is the norm. then build a quickie body stand around the frame. leaving the cherry picker holding it too. put cherry picker on the side where the fuel line isn't. do you already have a quickjack? however body is hung-supported, make sure the nose is supported high enough without being too high. a LOT of the nose support is the rad support attached to the front crossmember or air tank. you do not want it hanging free.

The quickjack also moves forward (or aftwards) while raising/lowering so that would add another variable into the equation, I can't see it being worth the extra hassles I'd go with the engine crane, even if you had to rent one

The thing would be where to store the body shell. My garage isn't big enough to store the body and work on the car at the same time (at least side by side it probably isn't). The engine crane would not support the body well, correct? I just thought of raising the body off the car with the QuickJack, maybe supporting the front end with a wood structure. Then I could work alongside the raised body to install the fuel and brake lines. I'm not contemplating a
full frame-off restore, I just wanted a way to install the fuel and brake lines with the body lifted off. I would assume I'd get a foot clearance maybe - that should be good enough, right?
