Im removing my cargo rack and antenna for a more clean look.
I'm thinking that i need to repair the antenna hole from both front and back, but the cargo holes I will just adress from the outside.
I.e no fiberglass on back side, just put something there temporary while I do the fiberglass work.
Ok or thoughts?
Another question, is there a connection on the antenna cable somewhere back there? Now the antenna is on the garage floor but still connected...
Had the body off but don't remember. Otherwise I will just cut the cable.
Hi, Years ago I removed the antenna from my '70 roadsters rear deck and mounted it underneath the body on a close by panel, it worked just fine. . My friend that did the actual total respray of the car patched up the hole on both the top and underneath.
Good Luck,,,,,,,, Peace, Moosie

YOu an pull the end off but on mine its one piece all the way to the radio. I would just spool it up and ziptie it into the frame if your not gong to use it for now. I change things on my car every year, whether its the antenna, the rims or the valve covers. I'm always changing the look to keep her fresh in my mind. Yo may want aradio in the fuuture to listen to the local game, you never know

That's a good idea. But I fail to understand how to remove the actual antenna. Theres the big nut that clamps the assembly to the body, and there is a smaller nut above that doesn't make any difference when I remove it...? I guess it's seized after 50 years , but where is the connection?
Once you have removed the top nut, grab the shaft on the mast with some pliers and give it a wiggle or two. It should loosen so that you can remove it. If not, do as advised above (PB Blaster or other rust penetrant) and wait an hour. Wiggle again....

depending on the antenna, the antenna may be threaded in to the lower assembly. Thats how mine is, the small nut is a lock nut holding the antenna locked into the assembly. Once you get that off the round part is threaded onto the lower assembly. can you post a pick of what you have.
I tried PB Blaster + violence (like with every other bolt on this car) but it wouldn't move at all. Then I pulled lightly in the cable and it disconnected from the metal base, so I guess problem is solved...
On my 75 I removed the antenna and used a flush button head screw and 2 large washers to cover the hole. Everything stainless so it looks pretty nice.
I re-attached the antenna underneath the car and then fabricated mounts for it inside the rear bumper cavity. It works well with my original AM/FM radio in spite of being hidden.
