Side mirror replacement
I need to replace the glass on the side mirror and would like some advice on what would be the best option to secure it. I was told to use silicon but wondered what others have used.

I would first make sure the mirror is not “flopping” and the ball joint is tight. There is an old post on how to remove the glass and tighten up the ball joint on the Forum. I used clear silicon after cleaning the mirror/glass with alcohol. Apply a good amount of silicon to the metal tabs inside the mirror housing. Since you didn’t specify the year, my instructions are for a 73. I cut some foam packing material and placed it on the outside of the mirror/glass, after applying the silicon. This gave the twenty rubber bands a flat surface to hold the mirror/glass in place. Let it cure for 3 or 4 days to insure the silicon has cured.

Awesome, thanks very much. It’s a 1975 corvette and unfortunately the glass fell out when the door was shut. I plan to clean up the dried glue before replacing. I’ll follow your instructions and let you know how it turns out.
