Hey Everyone! I have a '73 Coupe, stock 350 with mild cam. I'm going to install side-mount headers and sidepipes. I'm fairly certain that I am going to get Doug's Headers, but I want to know what everyone thinks of the difference between Ceramic Coating, SS, Chrome and Black Coated.
Which is better..........I live in Arizona with VERY LITTLE humidity/rain and keep the car in a garage.
I am interested in the simple black coating due to what I want to do with the car in the future, but if it's really worth the extra for something else, let me know what you think.
Also, as I said, I will probably go with Doug's Headers, but I found these on ebay and was wondering if anyone on here has used these or knows anything about them. Are they just OBX being sold by an independent ebay dealer?

I have Hooker stainless steel for several years now. Perfect condition, no rust of course, but the pipes up to the collector are a nice golden colour which doesn't bother me.
Cheap headers are cheap headers. Thinner pipes, thinner exhaust to head flanges . Just because there black doesn't mean the paint won't flake off at start up. In themselves they will not last like stock exhaust manifold. I would spend the extra money and go with a proven manufactures product such as Dougs.
my 2 cents which is not worth much but as much as someone else.....
I had ceramic coated tubes and they had rust starting just in little spots after a week. I have stainless tubes now but the header portion is rusting just at where the collectors start. The headers are chrome.
The reason why I Hooker had a sale for half off on the chrome headers and I figured the ceramic tubes may run cooler. I did not have the ceramic tubes on the car long enough before they started to rust. So I sent them back and got a set of stainless tubes.....
to do it all over again I would go full stainless.

Thank you for your thoughts on stainless jkippin..........if I didn't go with black, I was wanting to go SS.........just wasn't sure I could afford it! Thanks again.
I have Doug’s on my 81. Overall I am happy with them but the ceramic coating seem to show rust rather easily.

Thanks Tim81........Doug's headers seem to be the ones I have an interest in, just wasn't sure which coating would better, or if it really made that much of a difference. Ceramic coating seemed to be the way to go, but lately, the interest in the ceramic seems to have lessened and SS seems to be the preferred way to go. Thanks for your input.

Thanks resdoggie for your input concerning the SS. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and go SS
I went with black because it is so easy to paint or touch up with hi temp spray paint.
Sayfoo........Your comment was exactly what I have been thinking all along............I like the idea of the black because I want the black to show through the chrome side-pipe covers allowing the "Stingray" to show up better........plus it's a bit less expensive!
How often do you have to touch them up?

I was fairly certain I should stick with a good name, but truthfully I hadn't thought about thinner metal, bad welds, etc. Thanks for the heads-up!
I'll stick with proven suppliers!
