I need suggestions as to were I can get good quality carpet for my 1973.
It has been converted to Right Hand Drive, so I need carpet without the drivers side pad, as now
the drivers side is the passenger side.
It would look a bit strange with the pad on the passengers side.
I have looked at Rockauto and they have ACC carpet but all have the pad, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Why not add floormats. It will cover the vinyl accelerator foot pad - otherwise, you will not find a form-press fitted carpet set because the majority of C3 owners place such a premium on OE design originality... right down to comparing the pattern/number of ribs on the ACC replacement's vs. the original's because that's how our restoration hobby's worthy guiding conscience (NCRS) taught us how they do it. If I were you I'd call ACC directly and ask them to special-make one for you without the vinyl pad the next time they produce a run in your desired color. Worth a shot!
I ordered the carpet for my 1981 from Factory Interior custom-made since i wanted a darker color. The carpet itself was made by ACC and took maybe 3 days to do. It came in an ACC box and fit almost perfect. The only trim i had to do was in one corner of the storage cutout. It fit like a glove otherwise.
You might give them a shout and ask if they can make you a carpet set and skip the pad.
They were super helpful and no more expensive than any place that sold stock sets.
Here are some pictures. I had them send me some carpet samples. The correct camel carpet is the lightest color at the far end. What i ended up ordering is the darkest at the other end. There's also a picture of the back half installed, and a picture of the front half out in the sun before installation.
Isn't that vinyl pad just stitched on the carpet? How about pulling out the stitching … and run a vacuum over that area. I doubt it will show.
Good luck.
I have just been through the journey of replacing the carpet in 79 which has been converted to RHD. Mine was a bit more complex as the RHS footwell had been extended by 4 inches during the conversion and the "bulge" on the right of the footwell to fit an auto transmission was removed as my car is manual and I wanted the extra room for the pedals.
When I ordered the ACC carpet kit from Corvette America I also ordered an extra 1.5m square piece of carpet to match the kit. This allowed the trimmer to modify the RHS to fit the footwell. The ACC kit came with the pad stitched and glued in. I undid the stitching and removed the glue with solvent (it wasn't really hard even though I had bought the kit a few years back). The trimmer then sewed the floor part of foot pad in to the RHS carpet and the bit that protected the console near the accelerator pedal to the kick panel. I thought this was important as the side of my shoe rubs against the kick panel when I press the accelerator.
This is a company in Australia who does a front carpet kit for RHD corvettes, (They are not a supported vendor), I didn't know about them
if PM me I can send you the details and also some feedback on the ACC kit, we had a few challenges on the fitment as the compartment door hole was pre-cut.

Reason: more info
I got a set from Knox carpets , there in Melbourne , will save you about 5million dollars less to freight . They put just a square pad on the right hand side for me , you can ask them to send you one with no pads and unstitch your existing ones (original ?) and get a local shop to stitch it on .
I'm sure a shop in Melbourne isn't going to take too much business from Corvette Forum ! .
