Default 72 vette duct vent question

All, thanks in advance for your responses. I am redoing my interior (non AC car) and have begun to reassemle the dash components. The two duct vents are in pretty rough shape but I can't find them any where so it seems I'll need to try and restore the ones I have. Any feedback from those who have tackled this will be greatly appreciated.

Are you referring to the ducts that feed the lower dash air *****, the ones with a 90 degree bend and the accordion middle? Keep looking, they're out there and should be available from just about all of the Corvette vendors for about $30 each. The repro is correct for 69-77's, and can be used as a replacement for 68's. I know Keen Parts and Central carry them, and I'm sure others do also.

No, that's not what I am looking for. Is that part of the duck that contains the mechanical pull arm used to close and open the vent. I'll post a pic soon.

Use duct tape to seal off the ends of that duct and submerge it in a container of CLR corrosion cleaner. It will clean all the rust off those metal parts. Then you can lube them with a bit of white lithium grease [from a tube...not a spray can] and it will work as well as new. If the ball-seals in that duct need to be replaced, make replacements from a sheet of black felt. Cut 3/8" strips of felt and glue it to the ID of the duct. Felt will last MANY times longer than the cheap foam seals that the vendors sell; and it will allow smooth movement of the *****.

The spring clip comes off and lets the pivot bar slide out and you can remove the inner flap. either soak (as above) or if you have access to a light duty bead blaster (low pressure, small media) you can go over the linkage, it won't do much to the plastic but mask it if you're not sure. Work all the joints free. A little paint so it's pretty. Felt for the inner seal (as above)
