It’s not so much a car
Wanna be SCARED?.....talk about a ticking time bomb!....Those of us with the Mechanical Oil pressure gauge and the cheezy plastic oil pressure tube running up under the dash....That puppy breaks at speed on the hyway, will pump your foot-well full of oil in about 2 minutes flat. First untold MESS, Second engine goes BANG!.

I've battled leaks on my '73 since I bought it: Transmission dipstick. Transmission pan. Oil pan. Valve covers. Timing cover. Carburetor. Cooling system. Fuel system. Power steering leaked at every possible point. Finally gave up completely on the factory power steering and went with a Borgeson system. One by one, I worked on solving each leak. Fingers are crossed, but at the moment, the only type of leak that I have is an internal one (oil consumption). I plan to fix that this winter with a new engine.

I figured that the engine was shot anyway, so I drove home. The 68 327/350 was down two quarts. I filled it up and it was fine until I got a ZZ4 many years later. Lou.

I decided to assess the situation by listing all the fluids that could possibly escape, and if each fluid was actually leaking from this particular car. Here is the list I came up with.
Gasoline – Yes, from carb and fuel pump.
Coolant – Yes, from one hose, intake manifold and radiator.
Motor oil – Yes, from oil pan, rear main, and valve covers.
Transmission oil – Yes, from side cover and rear seal.
Differential oil – Yes, from pinion seal.
Power steering fluid – Yes, from power steering control valve & hoses.
Brake fluid – Yes, from master cylinder and one caliper.
A/C refrigerant – Yes, from somewhere, as system was empty.
Washer fluid – Yes, from one of the hoses to the wiper blades.
Steering box oil – Only slight moisture; no dripping.
Battery – No, but it was old and weak, so needed replaced anyway.
Perhaps I missed something, but I believe that is 11 possible places. After much diagnosis, restoration, component replacements, new hoses, and seal and gasket sets, everything on the car is functioning properly—and is leaking zero fluids—as I write this. Of course, I know it's just a matter of time for something to begin leaking, but that's one reason I find the car so endearing. Why else do we put ourselves through this?
It was also leaking vacuum from a number of places, but this thread is about fluids, so I will spare you.

But you also had to carry a can of light oil to constantly fill the SU carbs piston. My first one ate oil so bad that I filled the carbs every time I got gas. Went to Webers and solved the problem.
And lets not even mention the electrical nightmares.
Some cars just want your attention all the time.
