Default Rear Deck Vents

Pretty basic question, that I discovered this afternoon, I just don't know.

I sure thought the rear deck vent grates were chrome, but looking at mine, they have been painted in the past. Question is, what is correct for these vents. After looking through the internet, I have seen both.

Kind of want them chrome but maybe I polish up what I have if they are aluminum or stainless..

73 coupe.

Thanks

They polish up with a bit of work. Hard (impossible) to get into the edges and sides so paint them black (semi or flat) and them polish everything that can be hit by the wheel

I have a set of both. Painted to match and chromed. I personally like the chrome and the others are neatly packed away!

Yeah, Chrome for sure, since the C3 has all that stainless trim everywhere it would have made sense for GM to chrome these. But of course the bean counters were thinking pennies again.
I removed all 3, stripped them down, wire brushed and cleaned them.
Took them to a local chrome shop and had them done for $75 total
If you decide to go that route, the better you prep them the less work the shop has to do to make them "nice".
A couple of years ago I picked a pair of the rear grills at a swap meet for $30 already chromed for a friend.
