Default Brake light non function

C3 1977 the brake lights don't come on. Bulb, switch and fuse are all OK. What is likely the issue?

I would guess the brakelight switch under the dash. Wait till you see it. 99% plastic. Rather disappointing for a superb car anyway. There is a way to test the switch with a meter but don't ask me how.
Its a challenge to remove the switch if you need to. A new unit can be had from several vendors. There are two versions I believe, one w/cruise control and one w/o.

Had a similar problem with my '73 years ago. I checked all grounds first and couldn't find the problem. It turned out the fuse holder contacts were tarnished and not allowing the fuse to make good contact. Had to clean the contacts.
