Default Charcoal canister hose

Hey everyone

What type is the hose that goes from the carb. to the charcoal canister?
Is it a vacuum hose or a hose resistant to fuel?

Well, doesn't the carb vacuum suck in the gas fumes from the canister? Then it would be better to use a fuel resistant line. How much different in cost can that possibly be?

It is a vacuum hose. Unless the canister is defective, there is very little 'flow' in a vacuum line. However, that line should be made of petroleum-tolerant synthetic rubber.

The whole purpose of the canister is to trap fumes from the gas tank so they can be purged into the carb when the engine is running.
Fumes do indeed "flow" from the canistor, because of the vacuum being created by the port on the carb.

I looked up the data sheet of the vacuum lines I got.
It says they are resistant to oil and fuel. I think I'm good....

Thanks guys for the help!

Is it bad when a a vacuum hose is hanging against the valve covers?
Will they melt (the vacuum hoses)? My valve covers are aluminum... I don't know how hot they get (never touched them when the engine was running).

It shouldn't hurt the vacuum hose if it's lying along the valve covers. Most do! Now it wouldn't be wise to have them touching the exhaust manifolds.
Back to your original question about the Vacuum Canister hoses. On the earlier C3's thru 73 that have the cannisters there are three hoses. Two are the tough rigid fuel vapor type hoses and one is a vacuum hose. Check out the pic from my '73 just as an example.

And the small one is nothing but oil resistant vacuum line. Only the other two ever have any fumes FLOWING in them.

Will the a PCV type vacuum line (3/8") work with the brake booster, or is this another type of hose (material & thickness)?
