I just picked up a couple more C-3's since I'm pretty much done with the 73' Pro Street Vette and the 82' just to go to dinner. I got an 81' & 78'. After getting them home I really started looking at the 78' and it's a Pace Car! With the L-82 option the FE7 Gymkhana Suspension and RPO Z78 also the JY8's are in great shape. Not a bad find! Keep your eyes open they might pop up in the classifieds !
I'm not sure but I think for a Pace Car the 8th number should be a 9. But this car has all the Pace Car Options, could it have been ordered this way. I thought you could only get the front and rear spoilers on the Pace Car only. Please educate me, Thanks Guys!

Yes, the digit after the "S" in the VIN, should be a "9" if it was a Pace Car. The "4" indicates that it's a regular 78. You're right in that only the Pace Car came with spoilers in 78, but the parts were available through the GM parts system, and they did get added to a lot of 74-79 Corvettes over the years. I had a friend who added the Pace Car spoilers to his 78 Silver Anniversary in June 78, right after the Pace Cars came out.
Besides the unique VIN and spoilers, Pace Cars came with a Pace Car only silver interior, the 79-82 style "clam shell" seats in place of the regular 78 high back seats, a chrome Limited Edition Pace Car plaque on the console, glass tops, two tone black over silver paint, and P{ace Car only aluminum wheels with a polished center and red stripe around the perimeter of the rim (your car has the regular aluminum wheels).
Good looking 73, and I bet it moves pretty good. I sold a GM Performance Parts ZZ502/502 to a customer for his 68, and it flies even with the 68's stock 3:08 rear.
and the L means it started off life as an L48 (not L82). The engine stamp pad will tell you if it has the original block since there is a partial vin there.
The engine is completely stock with a # of 3970010 and an aluminum intake # 14007378, chromed finned valve covers with the corvette flags appear to be stock. Sure seems to be an L-82 but doesn't match what the vin says. Looking it over very well I really think this came with the car. Not sure why the vin indicates L-48. But nothing surprises me, my 1973 has a factory removable rear glass. The Corvette Museum guys said only a couple like that!
In front, passenger side of engine, below the valve cover you will see a squarish stamp pad like this. Take a pic. & post it. Beside the build date and 3 letter code for the use, it will have a partial vin. Is the vin yours?
Torque Thrust II wheels with 245/60R15 front & 295/50R15 rear I've had the car for almost 20 years and lots of different combos and this works the best for handling and speed! With MT's on the back I've Killed a Demon, Hellcat, Mustang GT 350 R, Audi R8 and quite a few others!!
