Hello,
My 1969 corvette is missing its rear compartment key (round head) for locking the compartments. Is it possible to get a universal replacement that will work?
Only the ignition key came with the car when I purchased it.
I can't remember where I saw them for sale. I think there are 6 or 7 different coded keys for security. Try Ecklers, Corvette America or you can always Google search for a spare key.
Hello,
Thanks for the info.. I removed the Philips screw that seems to hold the protecting bracket on the underside of the compartment lock and removed the bracket, but the lock itself does still not come out? Any suggestions on how to remove it without doing any damage? Do you hit underside of lock with a hammer to dislodge it?
I think some of these answers are assuming the doors open now, accessible. I think your best bet is to remove the hinges first.
Even if you could find a replacement GM key, how do you know which code it is? IDK Just saying, if you can buy a key for $10, a locksmith will likely charge $60.
Shop around on Corvette Americas web site. See if they have keys. How to get the code #.

Place a piece of soft wood under the lock and then lightly hit the wood with a small hammer
It might be cheaper to simply buy a new lock with matching key from one of the vendors. Although everything stated above is correct finding a old fashion locksmith that still does this kind of work and still has the codes may not be easy nor cheap depending on were you live. Just cheaper to replace the lock. I have done this twice. Ike
