In the process of attaching the rear cross member to the diff. I've misplaced the 4 bolts. Does anyone the length of the bolts?
Question 2, I have the 4 bolts and 3 lock washers to attach the cross member to the diff. I was very specific that there are only 3 washers. I wrote on the bag only 3 washers. However, nowhere in the AIM or the service manual does it say there should only be 3 washers. Because I was so careful about writing it on the bag, I want to be sure there should be 3 or 4. I am leaning toward 4, because I didn't write down which hole is the bolt only hole. Does anyone know for sure how many lock washers there should be? The AIM does should there should be lock washers.
Thanks Bill

Reason: Additional question
Hey Bill,
AIM manual shows them as GM part number 454932, which is just a 7/16" 14 (coarse thread) X 1" long bolt. These were probably Grade 5 bolts originally but if you're going to pick up 4 new ones, for just a bit more, you can buy Grade 8 blots.
Good Luck,
Greg
Go; thank you. I think those are bolts for the diff cover. I have to mount the diff to the cross member. I have the bolts, just need to find/remember where I put them.
standard bolts come in half inch increments. off the shelf 1-1/2 inch length, you put bolt in and count turns until it bottoms out. with no diff there. then measure what is sticking out. then measure thickness of diff where it clamps. then set it up with enough washers-shims or cut bolt shorter or both so that it pulls tight with 1 turn left under end of bolt.

FWIW...……..when getting around to installing spring pack shouldn't some weight of the car be on the spring pack to prevent cracking/breaking off the "ears/bolt holes" on the differential when the spring pack is torqued down?
