Hello, I have a 71 convertible and I was thinking about installing a 3 point seatbelt. I think that it was offered as an option in 71 but I'm not sure. If its possible id like to install either an OEM or an aftermarket seatbelt that looks stock. Has anyone attempted to do this with an OEM belt before?
Gabriel, I just went through this deal. Lap belts alone will assure only that, in the event of an accident, you'll stay in the car. No telling where your brain will end up.
I've got a '71 vert. I bought an expensive set from a well known vendor. Okay quality, but no better than a similar set I bought on line for my '59 Triumph, for a third of the price.
One thing I would alter is the attachment point on the side of the seat that keeps the belt in place. I'm over six foot and the belt tends to slip down to my arm rather than stay above the shoulder.
Find a solution that works for you. I won't drive a car without a shoulder belt.
I put a set of original shoulder belts in my vert which only came with lap belts. Your mounting holes should be there, just sealed with a plug. Hole location varies by model year.
