If you have not yet fixed your problem, swap the right side speaker wires with the left side speaker wires. If you problem moves to the opposite side, your head unit is the problem. If the problem stays on the left side, your speakers and/or your speaker wiring are likely to be the problem.
hi, it was head unit..sent out..see above..seen some voltage fried some parts and melted some copper circuit board
Cool! Sorry I didn't read the entire thread. Glad you have a line on getting it fixed. Now all you have to do is run the "thrift shop" circuits to find some serviceable 8-track tapes!!!

Are you still into Disco???
lol, no..and a few goodwill trips yielded nothing..ebay is your choice..
I recently helped a friend clean out his dad's house after he died. We must have dumped 100 8-tracks in the garbage. I hated listening to anything on 8-track. In the middle of a song it would stop, switch direction, and start again. Annoying!
Well i got my stereo back..
apparently blown filters etc...even a burnt copper on circuit board..Robert said something zapped it beyond radio amps..I don’t know how unless some 80’s car alarm stuff..the rear speakers were cut at console i rewired, all original speakers..
sure enough Robert was right and someone had a 25 amp fuse in radio...i switched to 10 amp..and it still works!
he added aux line ipad works flawless..i will get a cigarette lighter bluetooth charger for phones etc..
stereo perfect and 8 track amazing..he also said he modified it for higher quality sound and base with existing circuitry..option.
i am blown away how nice and powerful 1979 is when speakers so near in this cockpit.
highly recommend this route..
Dude, I'd LOVE to have that original 8 track player in mine. I just did a search, doesn't appear to be an original 8 track from a 76 Corvette out there, LOL.
Any chance I can get a pic or two of what it looks like? I just found several GM vintage stereos on ebay, but want THE one that came in a Corvette during those years....

Nice, I have heard good things about their speakers.
And by the speaker code date they are really fresh and should last you many years...
What size are your rear speakers?
