Since there was no 420 interior code for 1968 models, I'd think you're looking at an August 05, 1969 build (M05) with saddle vinyl (420) and Monza Red (974) paint.

Oooh a mystery.
Are you saying it might be a 69?
But when I buy interior panels there are lots for saddle in 68.

Interesting.....
Forum member cdj46 also posted a '68 here last week that appears to have a factory installed Saddle interior.
Scott, is it just the online image, or does your car seem to show a coat of Safari (or Daytona) Yellow underneath the Red?

I've found this site to be very helpful:

http://corvettec3.ca/interior.htm

Can you check some of the other numbers on your car, such as the engine code, VIN, etc, and see if it really is a 69, or perhaps a 69 trim tag put on to match a repaint.

It didn’t have the original engine in it when I got it so that won’t help, but here is the VIN.

According to this thread (and the NCRS judging guide), color code 420 (saddle vinyl) was available in late 68 cars.

August 5th 1968.
For trim tags M is SECOND August for both 68 and 69 cars. The letter codes started August for the new model year with the letter A.
For some parts like alternators and starters M is December as they skipped the letter "I". On cast metal parts like exhaust manifolds December is the letter L. Different things have there own system. Some things are Julian dated

Either way, saddle with red is a special order. Its not a standard color option.

Good to know! I was going off of Corvsport.com which has pretty extensive coverage of Corvette information. But it seems the production line used what was available.

Based on the OP's vin number, he definitely has a 68, production number (4)27938.
