I wasn't too confident on doing the rivets either until I tried it. I bought a cheap air chisel and a concave attachment. I run the gun on low pressure around 30 pounds. I use the head of a maul or some ballistic lead bars to keep pressure on the flat head of the rivets. The results are good and look like they did from the factory.
What "rear compartment" rivets are you referring to? If they are 'cosmetic', pop-rivets will likely do the job. If they are "strength" rivets, you need to use solid rivets of the same material as used by GM and get them properly "bucked".
