Default radiator core support removal.

Am going to replace the radiator core support on my 70 vette in the spring. Has anyone seen any good videos on replacing this? I am sure it is doable for me, but any info before hand will make it much easier. Thanks, Rob

I don't know of any videos, but I removed and replaced one on my former '73 C3 and just bought one to replace on my '72. On the '73, I removed the hood, fan shroud, radiator and A/C condenser. Once those were out, it was 3 body screws (those large pointed bolts/screws) inside both front wheel wells (helps to remove wheels to gain access) and then the two large bolts underneath. I don't recall anything else needing to come out. From there, it just lifted straight up and out. Honestly, the hardest thing to remove was the fan shroud. Everything else was pretty straightforward.

I had my radiator support out a few years ago, also a 70.
Not hard, remove the hood, 3 bolts on each side accessible from the wheel wells.
Two in the front going up through the front cross member.
There may be a ground wire connection which has to be removed, going from memory...
I pulled and reinstalled with the radiator and shroud installed.
Having an extra pair of helping hands works best.

Thanks for the replies . Do the radiator and shroud come out as a unit?

It’s been a few years but from what I recall I mounted the radiator on a bench along with the shroud. Installed as a unit. I may have removed the fan and fan clutch first. Mine is a big block, I’m assuming the process would work for a small block as well.
I installed the lower portion of the shroud after installing the radiator support, radiator, and main shroud as a unit.

Thanks again for the relies. I think my shroud is one piece. Will take another look in the spring. The baby is all wrapped up for the winter, Rob

They are separate pieces and you can take them out separately or together. Do you have A/C? If so, it's a little harder to get out since the condenser limits movement. I unbolted the shroud, pushed it towards the rear of the car and pulled the radiator out (with help - you need two people for this task.) After that, there is enough clearance to get the shroud out around the upper control arms.

just remember the rad support is also the NOSE support. so keep the nose supported and level with the rest of the body while rad sup is disconnected. and if AC, the condenser lines go around the outside of the rad support. takes some finessing to get rad support past the lines.

It is a non ac 350 so should be easier without the ac.Where do I support the nose, on the bumper extensions ? Thanks again for the help. Can't tell about how this turns out until the spring, just prepping myself for any surprises.
