Over the past 2 and a half months I've been prepping my 79 for paint. I was finally able to paint it week before last and now it's almost ready to ride, I just have to install the weatherstripping and door panels before hitting the road. This was my first time spraying automotive paint so I'm pretty happy with it.
Nice work, for anyone, especially a first timer. What kind of paint did you use? Base/clear? How many coars? Tell us about the booth. I have done some painting over the years but the problem I have now is lack of a place to do it.

Thanks! I used urekem base/clear from thecoatingstore.com. 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear. The booth is just a portable garage from Harbor Freight with a fan on each end, one pulling air in and one for exhaust. If I had to do it again I would get a bigger booth because it was really tight in there but it worked.
That is excellent work!!
I would enjoy seeing a picture of your masking job, please.
Also, how did you paint doorjambs in that booth!!!!
Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't have any good pictures of the masking. The door jambs were pretty tricky since I couldn't open the doors all the way. I masked the door openings with plastic and left it kind of droopy so I could open the door and lean in to spray the jambs. I sprayed them at the same time as the rest of the car so there wouldn't be any tape lines.
nice job. nice neighbors. i was shooting enamel in 1/4 acre residential zone. neighbors not so nice. zoning guy came by talking several thousand dollar fines. for others considering this route, your neighbors will be there a long time after the painting, sandblasting, grinding and welding are done. know what you can get away with in your own driveway. that ambassador paint job is decent, fast and cheap. better results than i can get and i have shot more paint than most backyard mechanics.
Looks like you did a really nice job! Are you putting the spoilers back on? I too have a 79 L-82, that was painted in a back yard, but not by me. Mine came out damn nice too.

Thanks. I don't plan on putting the spoilers back on but I'm keeping them in case I change my mind in the future.
The front spoiler assists in cooling at low speeds and you may find that eliminating it might cause overheating problems in slow and around town traffic.
