I was kinda sad when my son got his license at 16. He shined with smiles for hours when I picked him up in the red 73 with the T-tops off. Our over-under is 60 seconds from leaving the driveway before we get a big wave or thumbs-up....every time. The C6Z gets waves from guys on motorcycles...still can’t figure that one out.
I have a mint C6 coupe ('09 with 20K on it, summer-driven only) and a '79 that's a 30-footer at best. Both are red. The '79 gets easily 4 times the attention the '09 gets. A lot of that, I think, is just the novelty of seeing any old car on the road, but people do really to seem to have a fondness for old Vettes.
On the other hand...
I had the '79 out on a summer day a few years ago and went through the Portillo's drive-through. T-tops off, no carpet or passenger seat in the car... The teenage boy standing in line taking orders stood right next to the car and said " Wow, this is an awesome car! " and I thought, "there's a chance for the future generation after all - all's right with world!" Then he said, "Can I ask what kind of car this is?" Then I thought " we're screwed, " told him it was a Corvette, ordered two hot dogs and asked the kid if he knew who the Beatles were.
About a year ago the wife and I went to McAlister's Deli and a 4 or 5 year old boy yells out "look at the race car" pointing to my stock 68 coupe! Really made my day! Lou.
