I was out cruising in my '81 today. I'm sitting at a red light. I see this kid get out of the car behind me. He comes up taps on my glass and gives me a big thumbs up. I roll the window down and he says that Corvettes are his dream car and he loves mine. He couldn't have been older then 18.
I was somewhat surprised that someone in his generation even knew what a Corvette was. It was refreshing to see another generation take an interest in our cars.

We all love that! I heard that the C-3 Corvette is the most searched Corvette by Millennials..surprising!
So I'm at 'the car show' a few weeks ago with the 82 CE.... sitting behind the car in a deck chair.
A 20-something, stunningly gorgeous and scantily clad young woman comes up with her 'Buffalo' boyfriend in tow.
She says " I heard the 'New Corvette' is out...WOW this must be it...it's Gorgeous! Easily the best looking Corvette here".
I say; "Just for that...YOU get to sit in it!" She's thrilled.
C-8 guys....sorry....looks like a Acura NSX.....un-loved and un lamented!

We northern guys suddenly hate you..................................... ....out cruising in mid-Dec??.
I'd have let him take a pic in the drivers seat = future owners
Yes we have some pretty nice days here in the fall and winter.
In the Summer we experience at least 50 days in the 100's.
Cars here stay out year long unless they can't take the Spring and Summer heat.
I would have showed the kid my car but we were sitting at a red light at an intersection.
Great story Street Rat!
I had a similar experience while at the drive-thru at In-N-Out Burger.
The kid at the window, maybe 17 or 18, was wide-eyed when I pulled up.
"Man, I'm going to get one just like this someday! So much nicer than the new ones!"
He just wanted to talk Corvettes while the line of hungry patrons waited behind me.
I must admit, it did feel pretty good having someone without gray hair show appreciation for a C3.

Great story, I seem to have one just about every time I drive mine. I cannot fill my car up without someone walking up and talking about it. And sorry, Fast81, I drove mine last Friday to work, will almost definitely drive it this coming Friday!
I just had an occurrence like this today, coming home from school I was behind a car full of other kids. One guy sticks his head out of the car and gives a fist pump, and continues to give thumbs ups until I turned away. Always cool to see other young guys into C3s : ))
I was working away in my garage a month ago, and a lady and her son walked by. He looked about ten years old. The boy says to his mum, "Look, a Ferrari."
I said, "No, it's actually an American car, a Chevrolet Corvette. Ferraris only come in red."
He nodded, and then asked, "Really?"
I'm not surprised he didn't know what it was. I've lived here in France on and off for 12 years, and pretty much permanently for the last ten, and I would guess I've seen a grand total of about 3 Corvettes.
This summer when i got my first , only, corvette..taking kid to grade school band...pull into spot get out a mom and 5 yo stops us from behind and she says i have to tell you my son says that car is the fastest car in the world he has ever seen.. my 13yo was very happy..i stopped near the car where i got out and said thanks would you like to drive it and held out keys...he didn’t know what to do..very cool...
then..as start to walk in i noticed that I basically drove the rubber front end into a trailer hitch from car in front...ugh...so back it off and touch up paint..now my boy reminds me by my request to stop short every time we park..part of learning a c3..
it does seem 5 to 25 yo seem to capture imagination..
so glad i went c3..

The damned thing doesn't even have to run. I could just push it somewhere and people would show up like I flipped on a porch light. And I don't mind one bit.
So I'm sitting in front of a hotel waiting to pick up a guest for a museum tour when a beautiful young lady walks out and starts taking pictures of my C3, completely ignoring the great looking C7 and C6 in front of me. Turns out she was from Ecuador but lived in Italy. Another advantage of driving a C3!

I think the convertible C3 is perhaps the most striking car form -the look transcends time and is a true classic.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
