Default raised brown letters

Not going to flog the BFGs and their brownish lettering anymore.Might not be unique to them.

Before I mount them RWL inside, has anyone used any of the marker pens or paints ? Seems like a p.i.t.a but you never know, maybe someone has has good results with them.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for painting. Done with trying to find the magic cleaner.

Yeah I gave up on cleaning too. And as a last ditch effort tried the white letter paint. four months later they look great. Still waiting for them to peel or something. But so far they look great!

Hi Pigfarmer,
I have done the white pen, it’s ok. Doesn’t last for very long. You just have to keep doing . What I have used to get my letters white again is Grease Lightning(Yellow Bottle). Spray on to letters, use a green scotchbrite , scrub onto , not super hard. Should get white fairly easily.rinse off with garden hose. Will stay clean for good amount of time.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Mark F.

One more photo. The T is what I started with. The / is sanded ready for paint. The A is painted. I didn't like the pen so I opened the container and used a small brush. And it painted ME real good too. Wore white for a week.

Cleaning last about two week for me. I was looking at new tires. This is only been four months - but is way better than any cleaning.

Thanks. Oddly the one cleaner that worked best was Totally Awesome from the Dollar Tree. I'm done with that though and will try the paint before I flip them.

This was cheap stuff. The Jury is still out! But for now my BFGs have a stay-of-execution! I felt like I had nothing to loose.

Oh yeah - It is time consuming.

Thanks for doing that so quick! Already found it on Amazon. Might cruise over to Hobby Lobby later and sniff around.

Time I seem to have plenty of. It's 14 degrees F out there now and we're on our third ice storm and it's only December. I actually have a tire off now - eliminating the heat riser and replacing the center section of moulding on the side pipe cover. Perfect time for a clean up and paint.

I had BFG's on my old Trans-am WS6.....I RED LETTERED the RWLs, not because of browning, but because of UNIQUENESS....they looked terrific and always brought comments at car shows...as in "Where can I buy THOSE, they are sooooo cool"

Red paint stick/pen and some tedium....tho the red never did come off...so you only have to do it ONCE.

Clean the RWL's with laquer thinner, scuff up a bit with Scotch-Brite and paint.

I didn't try any markers or pens. Our local Discount Tire bought back our BFG's with brown letters for $140.00. We bought Cooper Cobras and applied the $140.00 to that purchase. That's $140 total, not $140 each, but I guess that's better than nothing. (And these were not even T/A Radials. They were Long Trail Radials. Don't ask how Long Trails got on our C3. That alone was bad enough, but the brown letters made it even worse.) We're very happy with the Cobras.

I use GooGone to clean mine. I didn't like the pens, tried them on some raised white letter tires on my truck. It seems they went brown quick and looked way worse than before I painted them. I use some GooGone, be careful - it will take the white off if you don't wipe it off. I love the old school raised white letter look so I keep mine cleaned up and looking white.
I *am* intrigued by the suggestion of painting them red, for, say a car show or something.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture would you? I've got red interior in mine and am intrigued by red letters.

Did you just wipe the brake fluid on then wipe off or was scrubbing necessary?

Just put some on a rag and dab it on just the letters....Wait maybe 2 to 3 minutes then wipe it back off with just a little bit of scrubbing. I then washed the tires off with soap and water.

Sharpie oil based pen with tire flat on the ground to allow the fluid to flow out the tip of the pen.
