Just bought a 71 4spd convertible and went to get in and back it out of the garage and the door won't open. The car is a unrestored survivor and still has the shield over the door latch the window is down but still can't see much of the latch tried lubing every thing I could see. Looked at my 72 that has no door panel and can see the arm move on both cars from the inside release any ideas.

Does your driver's door open using the inside handle? If so, the spring on the outside door handle may be broken, which will make it so the linkage to connected to the rod that actuates the latch mechanism will not articulate. Basically doesn't move/ rotate anymore! Hope this helps, if your inside lever doesn't work either, please post, have mine all apart, can send about any pic you would need! The outside handle sticks in the down position at times. And now I have to pull it up and feels like it does nothing the inside handle feels normal but won't unlatch the door. I just don't want to try to break the shield over the latch afraid of damage to other parts. Hard to work through the little slot where the window goes through the door. I will be working on it tomorrow I will see how it goes tomorrow. THANKS FOR THE HELP Bob
