You need to find an a welder that has great experience and skill welding pot metals. It can be done I had several broken bezels repaired. But the chrome plating in the area will be lost but can be polished so as to not very noticeable. 68 bezels are super rare and vary in configuration thru the production year. If you are looking for originality then repair it cost me $50 to repair then my time to remove excess weld and polish. Reproductions are 1972 and later bezels modified to look like 1968 bezels.
That is "pot" metal. It's an mixture of low-melting point metals: easy to cast, very low strength, very brittle. Can it be fixed? Yes. Will that cost LESS than a new bezel? NO.

Rekplace it.
If you want the same paint and finish/ surface texture, they dont make a 68 bezel. They are slightly different from the 69 up bezels. I fixed my 68 and have it on a shelf and fixed a 69 that was butchered for a Din style radio and am using it.
Yes. '68 bezels did not have the 'pebble' surface finish of the '69-up cars. They were just plain ol' flat surfaces. If having one that is "correct" is important, you may want to repair your '68 bezel....or just mount the two pieces together and hope for the best.
I cut a piece of sheet metal the shape of the broken joint plus some overlap on each side and the back side, degrease/clean thoroughly, rough up the surfaces with 80 grit and super glue together. Barely noticeable even it you look closely at the edge.
(good idea on the ground wire too)
Hope this helps.

Could you please be more specific about how you would run these two grounds; where would you route them? Electrical is not one of my strong suits - thanks for your help - lcf
