I want to get a 1981 corvette but it doesn't make a lot of horsepower, according to online specs about 190. I wanted to know what the best engine and transmission to go in it that will be a great and reliable fit and makes good horsepower, preferably about 350 horses. Thanks!
For the engine a lot of people put an LS1 (or other LS engine) in and for the transmission a Tremec 5-speed or a 4L65e automatic. There are lots of threads on this - do a search of this forum for lots of information.
The stock engine in an '81 C3 is a 350 SB Chevy engine. If the block in not damaged, it can be rebuilt to produce upwards of 500 hp. 350 hp is easily achievable with carb or EFI induction system. Good heads, cam, higher CR pistons, stroked to around 400 cu in, if you wish.
P.S. If your '81 still has the 1st year ECU, distributor, electric mixture carb, TPS and wiring harness on it, I'll pay the shipping if you send them to me....

OP
You don't show where you're located ... But if your jurisdiction permits it: deleted cat, true dual exhausts and reprogrammed ECM/computer will improve a lot.
Summit has a top end kit aluminum heads, cam, lifters, intake etc to get you to 350 hp, you will need a new carb and dist also , Edelbrock has one to 400+ hp but it's more $$
