the connector plug looks like the "neutral safety switch" on my '72 wiring diagram with AC, but mine shows different colours.

Wouldn't the neutral safety have purple wires? Could also be for the back up light switch

the wiring diagrams i have for my '72 with AC only shows that plug 3 times with wire colours.

dash harness shows "Clutch neutral safety switch" purple/white stripe in the horizontal position and purple in the vertical (where your black is)
dash harness shows "neutral safety switch" purple/white stripe in the vertical position and purple in the horizontal

headlight harness shows "power window relay" pink/black stripe in the horizontal and orange/black stripe in the vertical

colours on your car may vary, but i wouldn't think by much.
