Default 1970 Premium Interior Package or Kit??

According to the records that came along with the car, at some point it was upgraded to the Premium Interior Package. Is the "wood" found on the center console and the instrument gauge cluster part of the Premium Package or is it an aftermarket kit?

Thanks.

Yours looks aftermarket to me. The factory deluxe interior included wood appliques on the console and doors (along with leather upholstery and cut pile carpet) but did not include the gauge trim.

Your inserts are 'burled' wood design. The stock pieces were consistent colored wood veneer. Yours may not be stock, but it looks great and will last a LOT longer.

Thanks for the replies! I'm replacing the gauge cluster (the one in the car is cracked), and deciding whether to switch the burled wood insert over to the new gauge cluster.

the interior code on your trim tag will tell if it is originally vinyl or leather. with the leather seats come the door panel carpet inserts and the shifter console wood grain. ( not the gauges ), along with the cut pile carpet for leather. loop pile carpet comes with the standard vinyl coded interior.
so yes, your's looks aftermarket grain faux. looks nice though!

IMO it looks very 80's. If you like that look, fine; if not, toss it. Personally, I have never liked wood appliqués, even factory ones, but that's just a matter of personal taste. For sure this is aftermarket.

Appreciate all the info. Also the opinions from those who liked the wood inserts and those who didn't.

I can actually agree with both sides. When I bought the car last month, I wasn't crazy about the inserts, but now that I've driven the car for 9 months, I've come to like them.

+1 aftermarket. Is the car mostly stock everywhere else? If yes, then maybe remove the faux wood.

Guessing your car did not come with the Deluxe interior as the burlwood would not match.

That's correct. According to the build sheet the car came as a basically loaded 454 coupe, but not with the Premium Interior Package. It was upgraded to that by one of the prior owners.

The faux wood just adds a touch of class to the dash layout. If you like it, keep it; if not, ditch it.
